Sudan Airways

eGuide selected hotels

Sudan Airways have come a long way from the time of its inception. The Airline pioneered the introduction of seven DC3 – 28 seater aircraft in the year 1952. It was also the first airline in Africa to procure F27 aircraft with a seating capacity for 36 passengers. The airline went on to introduce Boeing aircraft into their fleet in the seventies and eighties and finally Airbus aircraft in the nineties. Sudan Airways currently boasts a fleet of more than 10 airplanes with plans to expand further.

Sudan Airways list of destinations includes flights to various parts of Africa as well as the Middle East and they also offer fully staffed offices at these destinations to assist their passengers with any concerns that may arise during their trip. Sudan Airways is more than an airline, also offering services such as airport ground handling, maintenance, and cargo and catering.

The airline has been plagued by a few unfortunate tragedies in the past. The airline has suffered two hijackings; one in 1971 and the other in 2007. They also had one of their aircraft shot down by SPLA rebels in 1986 and a fiery crash landing in Jordan in 2007 which resulted in 29 fatalities and 151 survivors.
