Sri Lankan Airlines Limited formerly Air Lanka, is the national airline of Sri Lanka. The Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport is its main hub and base. The airline was established in July 1979. At the time of its initiation, the airline was known to operate two Boeing 707 carriers that it had taken on lease from Singapore Airlines. From the eighties and onwards the airline began expanding and extending its services, increasing the number of destinations in and around the country. By 1990, Sri Lankan Airlines was already catering to over 26 destinations and went on to purchase its first Airbus A320.

Currently the Sri Lankan Airlines fleet is made up of 14 Airbus aircraft; A340, A330 and A320. Their list of destinations offered has expanded to 44 destinations spanned across 29 countries, including India, Singapore, China, Japan, Italy, United Kingdom and more. The airline has been recognized in the past with awards for their service and safety and they also offer a frequent flyer program called SmiLes.

Sri Lankan Airlines has gone to great lengths to accommodate the families that travel with them and offer children a variety of amusements to help pass the time on their flights. From games and toys that they can take home with them after the flight to cartoons and movies made for children.
