Spanair

eGuide selected hotels

Spanair is regarded as the second largest carrier in Spain. Its main base of operation is located at El Prat Airport in Barcelona. Son Sant Joan Airport in Palma de Majorca and Barajas Airport in Madrid are also considered bases of the airline. Up until 2009, the carrier was a subsidiary of Scandinavian Airlines. Previously the carrier had its head office at Spanair Building on the grounds of Palma de Mallorca Airport. However, in May of 2009 with the Spanair in the management, its head office was relocated at Spanair Building (Edifici Spanair) in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, which is situated near Barcelona.

Initially Spanair used to provide flight services within Spain and other European countries, but with the expansion of their fleet which now includes 36 aircraft they have also been able to expand their list of destinations and now offer flights all over Europe as well as to Brazil, Argentina and Cuba. They are also now a member of the Star Alliance™ and therefore able to offer their passengers’ access to hundreds more destinations worldwide using other members of the Star Alliance™ which includes 25 other airlines for access to a total of over 1,000 airports across the globe.
