Qatar Airways is the flag carrier of the emirate of Qatar. The airline was founded in 1995 but then was actually re-launched in 1997. It also has its hub at the Doha International Airport. It has registered itself today, as one of the fastest growing airlines in the industry through its services which span the continents of the world and strategic destinations on them. The airline now boasts of over 85 destinations to which its flights are scheduled in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. It has also increased its visibility by through its new flights to Melbourne as well as adding Goa and Amritsar to its network of destinations.
Qatar Airways’ current fleet of aircrafts stands at 78, a number which includes its cargo services. These are made up of Boeing, Airbus and Bombardier aircrafts. The airline has also concretized plans to increase its fleet by placing order for more aircrafts from Boeing and Airbus. Its plan is to operate a fleet of at least 110 aircrafts by 2013.
Awards have not been short in coming the way of Qatar Airways as its Business Class has won the award for being the “Best in the Middle East” for the fourth straight year while the cabin crew was also adjudged the best in the Middle East. The airline’s economy class has not been left out as it was also voted “Best in the World” in 2009.
