Malev Hungarian Airlines

eGuide selected hotels

Malev was born when Hungary acquired all of the Soviet Union’s shares of Maszovlet on November 25, 1956. Although Malev had offered trans-Atlantic flights since the early 1990s, the company decided to terminate these flights due to operational costs of doing so. As it stands, the company is in the process of expanding their European network and currently offers flights to more than 50 destinations including one trans-Atlantic flight to New York. As Malev Hungarian Airlines is a part of the OneWorld Alliance, their passengers are able to access hundreds of other destinations across the globe while enjoying easy connections with other member airlines, such as American Airlines, British Airways, LAN, Qantas and more.

Malev Hungarian Airlines currently operates a fleet of 22 planes which consist almost exclusively of Boeing B737 aircraft with the exception of 4 Q400 aircraft. Their fleet is considered among the younger fleets in the skies today.

The last reported crash was in 1977. All 23 people on the plane died. The cause of the crash remains unknown, but the craft struck level ground upon approach. It is suspected that the pilot was flying with reduced power.
