LAN Airlines, based in Santiago, Chile, is said to be kind to the pocket and easy on the eyes. The flag carrier of Chile offers passengers flights throughout South America, the United States, Canada, Europe and Oceana with a total of close to 50 destinations. As a member of OneWorld Alliance, LAN passengers can enjoy seamless connections to hundreds of other cities worldwide via the other airlines in the OneWorld Alliance, such as American Airlines, Qantas, British Airways and more.
The LAN fleet consists of 96 aircraft which include both Airbus and Boeing airplanes. They’ve recently replaced their older B737 aircraft with the Airbus A320. In an effort to be more efficient they have been working harder to maintain their reputation for offering some of the best on-time performance, meaning that their track record for on-time departures is above most others.
The airline has experienced a few unfortunate incidents. While they’ve only had two crashes, they have had a couple of their planes involved in some terrifying near misses. In July of 2008, a LAN flight was almost struck by a Cayman Airways flight as it took off from JFK Airport in New York. And, in March of 2007 a LAN flight was involved in a near-miss with a meteor somewhere over the Pacific Ocean.
