A worldwide airline company, the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as it stands today is a component of the merged entity which resulted from the 2004 merger between Air France and KLM. The core of the business of the airline is three fold; passenger transport, aircraft maintenance as well as cargo shipment. As a result also of the merger, the airline has a dual-hub operation. It therefore operates out of Charles De Gaulle Airport in France as well as Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

KLM’s destinations include flights to Europe, Southeast Asia, South West Asia, South Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, South America, Central America, North America, The Caribbean and Africa. The airline enjoys the luxury of not having competition on 61 of the routes it services which has been key in their success. KLM also maintains a large fleet of aircraft which numbers 110 comprising Boeing, Embraer, Fokker and Airbus aircraft.

The numbers of passengers that fly with KLM each year top 20 million. Being a member of SkyTeam as well as having code share agreements with various other carriers means that KLM passengers have access to close to a thousand destinations on six continents with smooth connections. Some of their partners include: Portugalia, Alaska Airlines, Malev, TAM and others.

In 1999 KLM started a program called KLM AirCares. This program is the result of wanting to be a socially responsible company. Through the understanding that many of their destinations are home of many underprivileged children, the program offers a variety of assistance through fundraising and donations, providing access to doctors and much more.
