Jetstar Airways is an airline based out of Australia. It was founded in 2003 and is based out of Melbourne. There are also secondary hubs located in Sydney, Brisbane, Singapore, and at the Gold Coast Airport.
Jetstar is a low-cost airline, offering flights at discount prices. They do offer international flights, but in the Eastern Hemisphere. For instance, they do offer flights to the United States, but only to Honolulu. Nevertheless, there are some rather nice destinations that include places within Australia and Asia.
As of 2006, there were 23 planes in Jetstar’s fleet. Such planes include the Airbus A320-200, Aurbus A330-200, and the Boeing 787-800. The Boeing 787-800 is Jetstar’s first Dreamliner aircraft. The plane is configured into two cabins for StarClass and economy class.
There has been one incident reported with JetStar Airways and that is an incident that occurred on June 10, 2009. There was a fire in the cockpit that was caused by the windshield heating system. The fire was extinguished by the two pilots and they diverted the plane to Guam International Airport. There were 203 passengers and crew on the flight and none of them were injured. There have been few noteworthy controversies involving Jetstar as well, including the refusal to book the guide dog of a visually impaired man and woman in November 2009.
