Egyptair has serviced air routes across the world for decades as one of the pioneer airlines in the world. The airline was established in May 1932 thus making it the seventh carrier airline in the world. Since commencing operations in August 1933, Egyptair has taken great strides and today has passenger and freight operations to over 70 destinations in continents across the globe including the Middle East, Europe, America, Africa and Asia. It has also been an affiliate member of the Star Alliance since July 11 2008.
Egyptair’s flight destinations which include major cities and capitals in strategic countries on the African continent as well as other continents are serviced by its large fleet of aircraft which total 48. Amongst these aircraft are; Airbus A320-200, A321- 200, A330- 300 and A340- 200. Others are Boeing 737-500, 737-800, 777- 200ER and 777- 300ER. Egyptair also ensures that it copes with the demands of passenger traffic in the peak Ramadan periods by entering into wet leasing agreements to make more aircrafts available.
There have been some accidents involving the airline’s aircraft in the course of its history.
This includes amongst others, the air crash accident in Bangkok Thailand which took place on the 25th of December 1976 involving Egyptair Flight 846 which claimed 124 lives.
