EVA Air

Eva Air is an international airline which is largely privately owned and operates out of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. The airline was formed in March 1989 by Dr. Chang Yung-Fa. It sent clear signals to the international community of its intention to play big by placing a bulk purchase order for 26 aircraft valued at US$ 3.6 Billion. Its maiden flight took place on the 1 July 1991 and has progressed from that point to ferrying passengers to more than 40 destinations in different continents worldwide including Europe, Middle East, Mainland China, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Oceania and the Americas.

Eva Air has a large fleet of aircraft numbering 53 which consists of sixteen Boeing 747-400, twelve Boeing 777-300ER, six MD-90, eight MD-11F and eleven Airbus A330-200. The airline’s frequent flyer programme is known as the Evergreen Club which is accessible through a four tier arrangement; Green Card, Silver Card, Gold Card and Diamond Card.

There have been two major incidents involving the plane but neither resulted in any casualties. The first took place on the 28 of March 2005 due to severe turbulence as the aircraft approached the airport while the second took place 15 of April 2008 and was caused by a tire which blew during takeoff.
