China Airlines was founded in 1959 and has grown to an airline with a fleet of 66 aircraft. They offer flights to 85 cities in 27 around the world. Based out of Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, they are the flag carrier of the Republic of China (not the People’s Republic of China).
China Airlines offers passengers the convenience of e-tickets, online check in and shopping and seat selection. They also offer the Dynasty Flyer rewards program which consists of several different tiers that offer different levels of perks and discounts based on the amount of miles collected by the passengers who enrol.
The airline is known for having a higher rate of accidents causing fatalities than most other carriers. Since 1970 when the airline suffered its first accident when Flight 206 crashed in Tapai after striking a ridge while landing, the airline has suffered 7 more accidents with fatalities. Along with those accidents, other incidents involving China Airline’s aircraft have included an uncontrolled descent which caused a 747 to plummet several times over the ocean, an explosion upon landing that resulted in the airplane catching fire (no fatalities) and also the assassination of the former senator of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino Jr., who was shot while being escorted off the plane.
