To accommodate their impressive list of destinations, the airline offers a fleet of over 220 airplanes with 50 more on the way. The size and relatively young overall age of the British Airways fleet is impressive, but the airline’s best known fleet member was the Concorde which was retired in 2003 after a crash of one of the supersonic jets owned by Air France. British Airways and Air France were the only airlines in the world to add the Concorde to their fleet and use them for scheduled service. British Airways acquired their Concorde in 1969 and it remains an important part of the airline’s heritage.
Flying with British Airways offers many perks for those who are members of their Executive Club frequent flyer programme which is one of the reasons, along with their impressive business class and executive class which offers luxuries that few other airlines do. British Airways is always a favourite amongst the travel industry and has been a regular recipient of awards and honors such as; Skytrax’s award for Best Transatlantic Airline, OAG’s award for Best Transatlantic Airline and Best Business Airline, and many others. |
