Air India is the 16th largest airline in Asia and also the flag carrier airline of India operating out of its primary and secondary hubs at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and the Indira Gandhi International Airports respectively. It also has the Frankfurt Airport as a secondary hub. Though owned by the Indian government they are administered by the National Aviation Company of India Limited. It was founded as Tata Airlines by J.R.D Tata in 1932 but the government of India obtained controlling interest in 1953.
Air India maintains a fleet of 24 aircraft which are B 737- 800 and in prime condition. The destinations offered by Air India include both international and domestic. The airline covers 14 international destinations in Asia and the Middle East with flights taking off from 17 cities in India. Domestically, the airline services 16 routes. Air India is currently working on plans to open more destination routes both internationally and domestically.
The airline has won many awards in the past, including; Preferred International Airline presented by Awaz Consumer Awards, Readers’ Digest Trusted Brand Award, Cargo Airline of the Year and Best Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative presented by Galileo Travel Express Travel World amongst others.
The Air India bombing is one of the best known terrorism cases of all time and though it happened back in June of 1985, it continues to make news because of several errors made during the trials of the accused.
